Nearly every weekend, our family has a tradition of having a family movie night. This special tradition was created sort of accidentally, and became a cherished night for our family.
Truth be told, it originated on Sundays when we needed to find an excuse for the kids to wind down so they would be ready for their early “school night” bedtimes.
Popping popcorn and snuggling together under a pile of blankets while watching a family-friendly movie was all the motivation the kids needed.
The tradition has other benefits. Lazy parent kind of benefits.
Just as much as movie night is for helping the kids wind down, it’s a great excuse for my husband and I to wind down, too. Which means family movie nights are no longer exclusive to Sundays in our house.
We like to pull together the easiest possible meals so we can spend less time in the kitchen and more time together as a family.
A few months ago, the whole family went to see the hilarious adventure movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. It’s one of those rare movies that the whole family loved, and I knew right away that this would be a great one for our family movie night collection.
I picked it up at Walmart this week and decided to do something a little special for our family time.
So, this week on movie night, we picked up some Banquet Mega Bowls for dinner – easy, breezy meals the whole family loves. I love that they are made right here in the U.S.A.
Then, I told the kids they were going on a scavenger hunt to discover what we would be watching for movie night.
I designed this fun jungle scavenger hunt that includes a mini-treasure map with six clues around the house
I added a small little surprise with each clue, like a toy compass, and little jungle animals.
I mean, who doesn’t love a good scavenger hunt?
At the end of the treasure hunt, the kids found their surprise: their new DVD, Orville Redenbacher’s Ultimate Butter Popcorn, and all the fun popcorn mix-ins!
This flavor is our favorite because of the rich, buttery flavor – just like the movies. And, it has 0g trans fat per serving.
What do you think of my jungle scavenger hunt? If you’re a fan, I’ve got good news: I’m sharing it as a free printable for my readers!

If you loved Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in theaters…or have been meaning to see it, go pick up your copy at Walmart now, so you can watch it over and over at home. The Blu-Ray and DVD include two exclusive Snapcodes for an Augmented Reality experience to transport you into the movie. So cool!
Planning family movie night is now really easy, too, because you can print out these fun popcorn boxes here and here, and animal folding activities here!
While you’re there, be sure to pick up your favorite Banquet meal and Orville Redenbacher’s Popcorn. There will be Jumanji events at select Walmart locations. Find out if there is an event at a store near you!
This sounds like so much fun!! I’ve always loved scavenger hunts. Is the new Jumanji movie as good as the old one?
I only recently saw the original Jumanji, and I have to say I actually like the new one better!
I loved scavenger hunts as a kid. This would be fun to set up and do with the grandkids. Wonderful and fun idea.
My kids love scavenger hunts, too! What’s not to like, right? 🙂
I love a good scavenger hunt. This would be great for our Easter themed party. Thakns for sharing.
What a fun idea! My kids would LOVE this.
Oh what a fun idea! I haven’t done a scavenger hunt since I was a kid. I bet my 4yo would love this!
What a fun family game night!! I have not seen the new Jumanji yet, but we plan to very soon. It may be hard to beat Robin Williams, but I’m very curious to see how it holds up in comparison!
SO fun, and thanks for making and sharing the treasure map with us. My kids are obsessed with trying to make their own 😀
My kids are so excited! They wanted a Jumanji scavenger hunt, and you saved us! They wanted me to let you know there is a typo “not” instead of “now” on Clue #6. LOL!
Darn! I need to hire them as my proofreaders! Please tell them thank you for letting me know. 🙂
