One reason I especially love our neighborhood is because amid our connecting patchwork of suburban yards is where we all come together. When the weather is warm, our backyards are where we exchange friendly “hellos,” chat while the kids play together, share a drink – and a few laughs.Chill and grill for a laid back summer barbecue. As we start the last week of the school year, I wanted to kick off the first unofficial week of summer. I wanted to create something really special and fun, on a small budget.

To pull off the full summer theme I decided to pull out all the stops – pineapple, watermelon, bright florals, and sparklers.

First, I had to create a fun tablescape. I hit up the Target dollar spot and found some colorful tablecloths that were begging for an upgrade. Chillin' and Grillin' Backyard Barbecue: Tutorial for turning a dollar store tablecloth into a custom memory blanket for gatherings.I hit up my local fabric store armed with a 1/2 off coupon and walked out with a great tassel embellishment.Chillin' and Grillin' Backyard Barbecue: Tutorial for turning a dollar store tablecloth into a custom memory blanket for gatherings.

Also on the menu was Pesto Pasta Salad, fruit, mango red onion salsa, and Coca-Cola™. Sometimes it’s the little things, like kicking back, watching the sun set, and sharing an ice cold Coke. Chill and grill for a laid back summer barbecue. As someone whose name has never appeared on the little license plates in souvenir shops, I love the idea of picking up a huge selection of these bottles and asking your guests to go by that name for the rest of the barbecue. I’m obsessed with all the colorful decor and the pineapples, too! So stinkin’ fun! I can even see fun games like flamingo toss or croquet would be really fun, too.
