Sweet and savory salted caramel dip recipe
You’re going to love this Salted Caramel Dip recipe! Use it on fruit, ice cream, dried apple and banana chips, or graham crackers for an extra sweet treat!
Just like most families, we try to eat a well-balanced diet. We incorporate lots of fruits and veggies into every meal and snacks. But I’ve been thinking a lot about how my kids have started to view fruits and vegetables almost like the drudgery they have to go through to get to the good stuff: sugary desserts. So, what about turning fruits into actual dessert, but adding a little something extra?

I attempted this today for the kids’ after school snack.
First, I made an ahh-mazing salted caramel dip. I got the recipe from Kevin and Amanda, and made some minor modifications.
salted caramel Apple Dip
- 2 C. granulated sugar
- 12 T. unsalted butter, softened
- 1 C. heavy cream, room temperature
- 1/2 T. Ground Himalayan Sea Salt
I’d never made caramel anything before and I wish I’d known how easy it is!
Just heat sugar over medium-high heat in a heavy pan, stirring constantly until it begins to caramelize. Next, add the butter until it’s thoroughly mixed.
Whatever you do, DO NOT bump the top of the whisk handle with your hand, sending about 1/8 Cup of nearly caramelized sugar all over your kitchen. Just don’t.
Then, remove your pan from the heat and slowly whisk in the heavy cream. Once your caramel is blended, you can whisk in all or part of your salt, then garnish with the rest.
The result is sweet, salty caramel goodness that will have you licking the bowl, pan and anything else you might “accidentally” spill.
If you aren’t worried about extra big helpings of the caramel counter-acting the healthy fruit, serve it up as a dip for dried apple chips, graham crackers or fruit.
How about taking this idea up a notch for entertaining? I love the idea of a caramel apple bar. It’s as simple as it looks!
Start with a sheet of brown kraft paper and a selection of small bowls and dishes. Fill a bowl with your Salted Caramel Dip, and add another bowl with chocolate sauce. Add crushed pretzels, mini chocolate chips and red and black sprinkles for toppings. Grab a Sharpie and label the toppings like I did here. Then, choose your apples – we’re big fans of Honeycrisp, Granny Smith and red delicious. Slice them, and get dipping!
Ok, I’m totally making this. This would also be a great gift idea for fall!
Love homemade sauces and this is a favorite this time of year with the apples in season.
