christmas home tour
Many of my readers started following me for my home decor content, but I’ve really fallen behind this year on updating my home as much as I would like. I plan to change that in 2018 with some updates I have planned, with no more indecision to stymie me!
For now, I’m sharing a small home update in the form of a Christmas Home Tour.
Every year readers have told me they can’t wait for me to reveal my tree. They seem to be sure I put amazing artistry into it. They are totally wrong!

The truth is, we have a small hand-me-down artificial tree with lights that don’t work. So, we have to add strings of lights on top of non-working lights.
With three young kids, we have what my mom always called a “fun” tree growing up. That means homemade glitter and popsicle stick ornaments, as well as colorful “toy” momento ornaments, hung wherever my brood deems them appropriately placed. Usually all bunched up at the bottom of the tree.
But before all that…for a moment in time…I have my fancy tree.
The one adorned with gold and animal print ribbons. Decked out in gold shiny ornaments and white twinkling lights.
This tree exists just a few days a year. This year I convinced my family we need to set up this “base” tree before we traveled for the Thanksgiving holiday. That way it would be so much easier to decorate when we got home.
Yes, the fancy tree is nice for awhile, but I’ve come to prefer our “fun” colorful tree. It’s the kind of tree kids just stand and stare at, which I remember loving to do as a kid.
As much as I like a clean and neutral space, I’ve been dreaming of more color for my home, and perhaps this year’s tree will be a great place for my inspiration. If you’re not following me on Instagram, be sure to follow along for our yet-to-be-decorated fun tree.
And even then I’ll still have this – my late grandmother’s ceramic tree. She was so ahead of her time.
Speaking of color, one of my favorite holiday decorating tricks is to frame seasonal photos of the kids and keep it stored with the decor. I do this for Halloween, Christmas, and Easter. I just love an excuse to look at these sweet memories.
And, I still manage to add color to my holiday table…
The kids’ shared areas…
I even attempted to decorate around the giant media center in the play room. Dub has informed me it kind of gets in the way. But “it’s okay.” Sigh. I tried, right?
And Lovie’s special decorations she loves to add to her dollhouse and room.
I hope you enjoyed my Christmas Home Tour.
What kind of tree do you have in your home, a fancy on or a “fun” one? Please tell me in the comments below. Then, follow along on Instagram for future photos of our “fun” tree.
Pet friendly which probably translates to “fun” ????????????
