It’s official – only 10 days remain until Christmas! Next week children will be knee deep in the magic of Santa, generous grandparents and loved ones. So buckle up, parents: it’s time to talk etiquette.

Some families take a casual approach to thank you etiquette –  growing up, mine certainly did. Saying a polite and heartfelt “thank you” in person is all that is needed when receiving a gift, and I’m whole-heartedly for that approach when that is your family culture.

However, the thank you note is becoming more and more of a lost art, and something I  want to instill in my children. After all, a thank you note is not just a word of thanks; it’s a way of reaching out and staying connected.

For my young children, I wanted to get ahead of the holiday to create a template that would teach them how to write a proper thank you. Nothing formal, mind you. Just simple, fun and heartfelt…and leaves room for them to add their own personality.

My long-time readers will recognize the format from the letter writing template I shared years ago (still one of my most popular downloads!).

The thank you note, like the letter template, has a few areas to fill in the blank, and a multiple choice option they can circle. 

Of course, I had to add an area to draw a picture. My kids always look forward to this part most and I like that it keeps the activity fun and engaging.

Let’s face it—we live in a digital world where people communicate in 140-characters or less, which is why discovering a hand-written note in your mailbox is such a refreshing surprise. In that spirit, I’m making my thank you note template available to my subscribers (below)!
